We were approached by Mr. Praveen and Mrs Priya Madhvapati. They aspired to build a home using earthbag technique (filling soil in used cement bags to construct a wall). They had already finalised the design by themselves and were looking to be involved in the construction process as well.Â
We took this up as a consultancy project. In the first site visit, we studied the local climate, soil and did some field testing and sampling to arrive at a good soil mix proportion. Later, we demonstarted how the soil is prepared and mixed, and how a wall using earthbag is erected. The local masons were trained in these couple of sessions and then built the wall by themselves, with a few inputs via phone / video call in the process.
We also guided them with regards to mud plaster and lime plaster - mix proportions, testing and sampling, demonstartion and application training.
Earthbag construction - The proportion mix, process and building technique was demonstrated on site and remote assistance was given through phonecall / video calls
Interal process photos - 1 coat of mud-lime plaster and 2 coats fo lime plaster proposed. Training for the masons and instructions for clients were given on site
