KSV is a unique residential school near Dharwad, Karnataka that not only teaches music and instills values for a lifetime in the minds of the children of the surrounding villages, but also empowers these children from socially and economically challenged backgrounds to realise their full potential and attain a better life.
KSV has a beautiful campus in a forest, where they have used the local materials and labour to create huts for classrooms, stay facilities and so on. We were approached by KSV to help redesign and upgrade a few classrooms that were to be funded through donations.
We instantly fell in love with the place and the passionate people who run KSV! Since then, we have been a part of the KSV family, advising on new constructions and completed two classrooms
These classrooms were made with adobe, some of which were obtained from an old demolished house near the village and the remaining were made on site using local soil. All masons and carpenters belonged to the neighbouring village and completed the construction with great dedication and skill. A highlight of the construction was to see separate volunteer teams from France and Canada come over and work alongside the locals in constructing the classrooms. It was a true participatory design as well as construction process.
